Objective
Art Sculpting was a modality introduced for this expressive arts session and were introduced to parents with children who are diagnosed with cancer to enable them to express and process their feelings.
The artworks were completed in 6 weeks by the parents of children and AYAs (Adolescents and Young Adults). The sessions were conducted at Ain Society Young Heroes Cancer Care in Blk 2 Eunos Crescent, in commemorating Childhood Cancer Awareness month this year.

Stage 1
How was your life like before your child start to fall sick?
Swimming
Back then, we always went swimming. However, leading up to the weeks (before the diagnosis), she kept on getting a fever. Even with the fever, she still wanted to go swimming and we went. So now, if we want to go for swimming in a public pool, we'd feel traumatised. It brings me back and we get scared.

Stage 2
What are your feelings when you found out your child was diagnosed with cancer?
Broken Heart
The theme of today is broken heart. I think, of course, I felt sad. All aspects of your life - your social life, your work, your friends, your hopes and dreams, are all broken. I think for me, that also made me remember my miscarriage when I got the news. Every aspect of your life, at the point of time, is affected. But along the way, whoever you lose, you'd gain new ones - have new friends and you'll gain support from them.
Stage 3
How did your life change when your child started cancer treatment?
See-saw
There were numerous ups and downs throughout the treatment, both in terms of my emotions and the treatment process itself.
The 'ups' encompass moments of joy when witnessing positive progress in the treatment, as my child moved forward to the next cycle or medication. These moments of happiness also emerge when I see my child's resilience and happiness despite the challenges she faces. Additionally, celebrating small achievements during the treatment and the milestones in my child's growth provide reasons to rejoice.
On the other hand, the 'downs' consist of feelings of sadness when dealing with the side effects of the treatment, watching my child struggle with them, and experiencing the challenging days when she has low blood counts and requires a blood transfusion. It's heartbreaking to see her endure pain during the treatment, and I feel a deep sense of sadness whenever her counts are low and the treatment has to be temporarily halted, prolonging the entire process.

Stage 4
How was your life like after knowing Ain Society?
Emotions
Being with Ain Society - YHCC especially, I feel very happy. Whenever we meet, we'd always have laughter and aside from the laughter, we'd have moments where we share our sad moments with one another. Above all, I always feel the love when I am here.

Stage 5
How did you feel when your child has completed treatment?
Hands / Palm
Completing a treatment is a blessing. Raising the hand is to thank the God because giving 2nd chance in life & having a healthy child. Its all about being thankful and grateful . Palm also represent of love that we received from the people around us and reflect how life can be awesome. Also to appreciate life holistically.

Stage 6
How do you feel now? What is going well in your life now?
The Tanjak & Keris
These items represent ''Silat'', a Malay Martial Art which my kids are involved with currently. It seems as though life has finally gotten back to normal as we are now able to send our kids for enrichment, classes, and outdoor activities. Back then when my daughter was having complications with her treatment, I wasn’t able to bring her out to experience the world.
